Lake House Fun

Great 36 hours at the lake house with Ben, Donna and Buddy. Wonderful meals, swans, ducks, fishing, billiards, rest, conversations, great meals (chicken piccata and ribs), swimming off the pontoon boat and cherries off the front lawn tree turned into a great pie.

Lovely time with the Kiehls

Yesterday we arrived at Bud and Donna's lake house. Buddy arranged his schedule, so he is here, too! We are having a GREAT time!! Donna has made two WONDERFUL dinners and for dessert we had delicious cherry pie from the cherry tree in their yard!

This afternoon we had a picnic lunch on their pontoon boat. Donna, Buddy, Will, Brent and Bill braved the seemingly chilly water and jumped in. After the initial shock of the cool water, they said it was very refreshing.

Right now, Bud, Buddy, Will and Brent are out fishing. Hopefully the fish will be biting!

Boston Pronunciation

The other night, Bill was at a Dunkin' Donuts and ordered a cruller. He pronounced it as CROO-ler. The lady behind the counter had no idea what he was saying. He tried three times and then gave up and pointed. The lady said, "You're not from around here, are you. We pronounce it CRAW-lah."

Today on our way out of Boston, we stopped for gas in a suburb and there was a Dunkin' Donuts. (They are EVERYWHERE in this area.) Bill wanted a cruller but was hesitant to order one. Luckily the crullers were the manager's special, so Bill just had to ask for the manager's special. The guy behind the counter said, "Oh, you want a CROO-ler?" Bill was happy to hear someone pronounce it the way he is used to hearing it. (The dictionary says it is pronounced CRUH-ler, so the Boston lady was probably the closest to the correct pronunciation.)

We are on our way to Buffalo, NY, for the night and then tomorrow we will drive through Canada to get to Bud and Donna's lake house for a short visit.

Getting into trouble in Boston, Salem and Gloucester

On the USS Constitution

Salem, MA

Gloucester, where they had a festival that included a grease pole contest, rowing races, and a carnival. Also, fun Main Street.

At the harbor, we stumble onto a diving museum, run by an 80 year old retired diver who showed off his relics including his several deep sea diving outfits.

Red Sox items

These are what I wore to tonight's game. As first time Fenway visitors, we all got a Red Sox Nation bracelet, a Red Sox sticker and a "My First Game at Fenway" button.

It was a great game! The Sox beat the Blue Jays 7-4 and Dustin Pedroia hit a home run over the Green Monster!!
